Recent changes in local regulations required management at a shopping mall to update all ten of the emergency intercoms in their parking garage. They used an audio‑only system with two buttons for visitors to call for assistance or an emergency, depending on their situation.
While the system was working great, the mall needed to add video cameras so security personnel could see who was calling for help at the various locations. The new regulations also required locator strobes, wall boxes, and improved signage for each station in the garage.
By updating to a PoE powered IP emergency intercom system, the mall was able to add video to the ten locations in the parking garage. They were also able to maintain the functionality of the two call‑in levels. ADA compliant intercoms and wall boxes included the appropriate braille, signage, and locator strobes, which met the latest regulation requirements.
The locator strobe was easily powered by splitting the feed from the incoming PoE+ source. This eliminated costly AC power runs and reduced the time to get the project completed. Upgrading the ten intercoms in the garage and the main station in the security operation center brought the mall into compliance with the new code. Even better, everything was accomplished under their established budget.
